How To Maintain A Healthy Cholesterol LDL HDL Level
Bet you didn’t know this but all cholesterol is not bad. There is actually two different kinds of cholesterol. The bad kind, which we all should (and need) to stay away from is called LDL which is an abbreviation for Low Density Lipoproteins. The good kind of cholesterol is called HDL, or High Density Lipoproteins. Maintaining a healthy cholesterol LDL HDL level is key to keeping your body functioning properly. The goal of these levels is to have better HDL than LDL which will help in protecting you from many different forms of heart disease.
LDL is the waxy substance of cholesterol that is formed and stored in the fat cells. When you are at an unhealthy level, these cells slowly make their way up your arteries and begin to attach on to the linings of your arteries that head directly into your heart and brain. The job of the HDL is to protect you heart and brain from the bad cholesterol. HDL works diligently to remove the low density lipoproteins from arteries and carry them down to the liver where they will be broken down and “flushed” from your body. The trouble with this process is that when you have an elevated LDL level that is higher than the HDL level, it makes it extremely difficult, if not impossible, for the HDL to keep up, and therefore, the buildup continues without the ability of the HDL to stop it.
You can lower your LDL levels by cutting back drastically on the amount of food you eat what contains high amounts of saturated fats and trans fats. All animal products from eggs, meat, poultry, seafood and dairy products contain cholesterol. There is no cholesterol, however in grains, seeds, nuts, fruits or vegetables. When eaten in moderation, when your cholesterol levels are where they should be, a little cholesterol is fine. If you are a smoker, you need to stop. Smoking is one of the top 6 causes of heart disease, and when accompanied with the fact that you have high cholesterol, you drastically increase your risk for a heart attack or stroke. Making an active effort to exercise at least 5 days a week will also strengthen your body inside and out and will help you to burn off the fat in your body, thus lowering your cholesterol level. Keep the goal in mind that in order to have a healthy cholesterol LDL HDL level, you must make a conscience, active decision to change your lifestyle and make good, healthy choices.
